Black Tie Tuesday

The AAMU Office of Marketing, Communication and Advancement (MCA) is preparing to host the 17th Annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Von Braun Center.  

In an effort to heighten awareness and excitement for the event, MCA invites the AAMU Family to participate in "Black Tie Tuesday," an initiative calling for all University constituents to wear a "Black Tie" (e.g., black tie, black scarf, black shirt, or just black attire")  every Tuesday leading up to the Gala.

Alabama A&M University will observe its 142nd Annual Founder's Day and annual Class Reunion Celebration Weekend May 4th - May 7th. Several activities are planned for Alumni and friends of the University as they return to campus to celebrate the life and legacy of William Hooper Councill and to participate in Class Reunion events. A few weekend events include Founder's Day Convocation, Founder's Gravesite Service, campus walking tour, individual class reunion parties, Awards and Scholarship Luncheon and Worship Service and Memorial Walk. 

On Friday, April 28th, Alabama A&M University will host the 17th Annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala. This year's event will take place in the Von Braun Center North Hall at 6:30 p.m. Guests, dressed in their black tie best, will enjoy an elegant evening of dining and entertainment by Grammy nominated, singer, songwriter Alvin Garrett. The Black Tie Scholarship Gala will highlight scholarship recipients and recognize businesses, organizations and individuals in the community that show continued support to the University and its students. 

The Academic Honors Convocation provides an opportunity for Alabama A&M University to recognize hundreds of student scholars for their academic achievement. The distinguished students will be acknowledged during the 2017 Academic Honors Convocation scheduled for Thursday, April 6th at 12:30 p.m. in the T.M. Elmore Building. At center stage will be all students on the Dean's List, Freshman's Dean's List, Honor Roll, Freshman's President's Award List and students receiving the President's Medallion.

Alabama A&M University Alumni Association will host a Virtual Town Hall Meeting with President Andrew Hugine Jr. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 30th at 6:30 p.m. central time. AAMU Graduates will have the opportunity to listen in the comfort of their own home by telephone or online to receive information that most matters to them. Graduates were to submit their questions by March 27th.  The meeting will be moderated by Alumni Association President Albert Benifield. All phone lines will be muted.

  The First Lady's Scholarship Initiative Luncheon event, spearheaded by Alabama A&M University First Lady Abbiegail Hugine, is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Ernest L. Knight Reception Center on the campus of Alabama A&M University. This initiative is to provide deserving students in obtaining an education at Alabama A&M University that will make a life long impact in the community. 

 

Tickets are $40 each and a reserved table of 10 is $500. 

AAMU - President's Message on Women's History Month

As part of its observance of Women’s History Month, Alabama A&M University has launched a new web page featuring some 70 women affiliated with the institution and who have made undeniable contributions to the 142-year-old campus and well beyond.

“As we scan through the chronicles of time, we honor those brave and giving First Ladies, those committed staff members, the dedicated faculty members, and the countless alums who continue to give back,” commented AAMU President Andrew Hugine, Jr., whose letter serves as a preface to the listing.

AAMU Hub for "Serving the City as One" Initiative

Saturday, April 1, more than 900 freshmen will put the Alabama A&M University “Service Is Sovereignty” motto into motion, by collaborating with First Baptist Church for “Serving the City as One” initiative.

 

AAMU Fills Key Cabinet Position

Alabama A&M University President Andrew Hugine, Jr., has announced the individual who will fill the cabinet post of Vice President for Marketing, Communications and Advancement, a key post that encompasses fundraising, alumni affairs, electronic media communications, public relations, and print/mail.

Archie Tucker, II, who has served in the role of interim vice president since 2014 began the position of Vice President on Wednesday, March 1.
