The Alabama A&M University Family is saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Ella Byrd McCain, one of its most ardent supporters.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 16th at Bryant Chapel AME Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The church is located at 3125 Spaulding St. SW, Birmingham, Alabama.
Mrs. McCain and her husband (the late Dr. John McCain), were a "dynamic duo" and prominent educators in Birmingham. The late Dr. John McCain was a graduate of Tuskegee University, while Mrs. McCain completed studies at Alabama A&M University in 1945. The McCains were also part of the coveted Normal Legacy Society, a philanthropic group whose distinguished members have each contributed more than $100,000 to Alabama A&M University. The McCains' endowed scholarship fund within the AAMU Foundation exceeds $250,000. The Student Health and Counseling Center is named in their honor.
